Understanding What It Means To Be
White And Privileged

Picture
What does it mean to you to be white and privileged in the United States?...Do you think you are a good person and yet don't understand issues around race and privilege?... Are you challenged by long held beliefs and know you need help in changing those ideas?

The Journey

People who conscientiously work to understand prejudice around skin color, gender, ability, religion and so much more, often refer to their "journey" to understanding.  I have put this Journal together so that you, at whatever point you are on your journey, will spend some time each week for the next year reflecting and writing based on the questions presented in this Journal.

How

The Journal  also includes planning tools to help the reader gain additional insight and growth.  Moreover, it provides tips on journaling as well as a list of resources for additional study, and information about race and privilege.  Some of you will be able to use this on your own.  Some of you may want to find an ally for support, or explore the Resources section to help you develop your understanding.

Why

The Journal was designed to help white people ask themselves questions about race and privilege that are often not asked in public or private conversations. It allows people to explore the background of long held beliefs and guide the user to develop and clarify thoughts about questions that are presented. It is designed for individual reflection, as well as making an excellent guide for group discussions.

 Only racists make them."
